Le paysage d’une « société à maison » bas-commingeoise vu au travers des archives cadastrales et photographiques: quand ethnologie et géomatique s’en mêlent

Abstract : The use of tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) enables a new formalisation to be given to data obtained by sifting through archives, especially cadastral archives. The aim of this article is to present an analysis of the use made of these tools within the framework of research into succession and inheritance and territorial organisation of a social system known as a “House Society” (société à maison) in Bas-Comminges, following teamwork by anthropologists, ecologists and geomaticians from the laboratoire Dynafor de l’inra in Toulouse. While giss appear to be valuable formalisation tools, they also enable data to be conserved and pooled which is useful for multidisciplinary and/or long-term research programmes.
