La modélisation au service de l'évaluation et de la conception des systèmes de cultures intégrés

Abstract : The INRA Weed Biology and Management research laboratory develops models simulating weed dynamics in cultivated fields as a function of cumulative cropping system effects. These models are tools for analysing interactions in the agro-system, for analysing the diversity in species behaviour, and for evaluating alternative management strategies that are proposed to address current issues in agriculture (e.g. to reduce the dependence on herbicides). To date, two model versions have been developed, a monospecific prototype for black-grass (ALOMYSYS), followed by a generic and multispecific update (FLORSYS). Both are based on the annual weed life-cycle and on demographic functions depending on cropping systems, in interaction with climate and environmental conditions. Taking account of interactions requires the decomposition of the system into individual processes. In the multi-specific version, the species diversity is integrated by functional relationships. Each species is represented by a combination of traits, and the model parameters are estimated from these easy-tomeasure traits (e.g. mean seed mass). A methodology for evaluating cropping systems and for testing prospective scenarios with ALOMYSYS and other indicators was proposed and illustrated with case studies from a farm survey in Côte d'Or. The objective was to identify solutions for managing blackgrass, without herbicides and without increasing environmental and operational impacts.
