Le GIS peuplier, 4 ans après sa création

Abstract : Four years after its creation, the "GIS Peuplier" has produced several thousands hybrids which are now starting their first field evaluation. The originality of the interamerican hybrids lies in the use of parent P. deltoides which do not present complete resistance to Melampsora larici-populina and that of the euramericans in the diversity of the parents used. The double objective of these first crossing is better understanding the transmission of parental characteristics and the creation of a new variety for the best of them. These crossings will have successively to undergo several tests of sensibility to pathogenic agents which prevail in France as well as many agronomic tests. The "GIS" also evaluates the adaptation to French conditions of the most recent foreign varieties. Finally, the "GIS Peuplier" seeks to identify wood properties which could be integrated into selection criteria.
