Genetic manipulation of flavonoid accumulation in Juglans sp.

Gene expression modulation using sense or antisense RNA allow to study the function of genes, proteins, and metabolites. Several tranformed lines of walnut tree expressing antisense chalcone synthase gene were highly deficient in flavonoids and presented particular morphological traits. The physiological roles of flavonoids as well as the mechanisms controlling their accumulation can be investigated.
