Le bananier et ses produits dans l'alimentation animale

Abstract : The leaves, pseudostems of banana and non-marketed fruits can be valued by the livestock. Ruminants can use all the products of banana plant while monogastrics use efficiently only the fruits. Whatever the animal species, the fruits have an energy value similar to cereals. The fruits and the speudostems are deficient in protein. Leaves eaten by ruminants have the same nutritional value as a medium-quality grass. Optimizing value of banana products needs a change in banana plantations, from a monoculture to mixed farming systems. Work is still needed to develop these new production systems.
