Fast prediction of the hydrogen potential of solid waste by Near Infrared Spectroscopy

Résumé

The main objective of this study is to predict the biohydrogen potential value of various solid wastes using Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. A Partial Least Square (PLS) model was developed to predict the hydrogen potential of different solid wastes faster (i.e., in less than 1 day) than the fermentation test (which lasts about 7days depending on the kind of substrates). Our results show the feasibility of this method : Standard Error of Cross Validation (SECV) of 16 ml H2.g-1 VS (R² : 0.93) and Root Mean Square Error of Prediction (RMSEP) of 32 ml H2.g-1 VS (R² = 0.76). This new method can be used in order to determine faster the hydrogen potential of solid waste and thus improve the management of anaerobic digestion.
