Résumé

With the objective of evaluating the effects of different cutting frequencies and fertilization rates on the variation of the components of the cell wall of the mulberry (Morus alba var. Tigreada) forage in both seasons of the year, this trial was carried out at the Experimental Station of Pastures and Forages «Indio Hatuey» in Matanzas, Cuba. The agronomic management was carried out without irrigation and with nitrogen fertilization by means of the application of chicken dung (by-product of poultry exploitations) in each cutting during the rainy season (RS) and in one cutting of the dry season (DS) so that the rates (N) of 100, 300 and 500 kg of nitrogen/ha/year were reached. Three cutting frequencies (CF) (60, 90 and 120 days) were applied. The experimental treatments (18) corresponded to the combination of the cutting frequencies (CF, 3), the fertilization rates (N, 3) and the seasons of the year (RS and DS, 2). The proportion of the components of the cell wall in the integral edible forage of mulberry was determined by the effects of the season (higher concentration in the dry season than in the rainy season) and by the cutting frequency. The rates of nitrogen fertilization do not seem to determine a variation or an important effect on the structural components of the forage evaluated. New studies will be necessary in order to learn further about aspects related to the physiology of this forage ligneous plant, if we want to know the arguments closer to some of the trends found in this study.
