Designing negotiation aids for milk quality in the Corsican dairy sheep sector

Résumé

The new European ruling on sheep and goat milk quality call for readjustements which are disrupting the entire small ruminat dairy sector. To help the different partners in the sector (sheep and goat farmers, cheesemakers, agricultural advisers) to reajust their systems in these conditions, a study of the representations the different partners have of quality was needed. The authors used artificial intelligence (AI) tools for decision support to assist the partners in deloping a "collective rationality" by confronting individual rationalities. Two types of AI tools (an Expert System and a Negotiation Decision Support System) were used in order to achieve the sharing of milk quality representations, first between the farmers and advisers, then between the farmers and cheesemakers.
