Les chefs de culture : entre « têtes de pont » et « têtes à gnons »

Abstract : The purpose of this article is to account for new forms of organisation and working conditions in the agricultural sector. A study of a professional group of crop managers working for large agricultural interests analyses to what extent said groups - generally considered a source of stability for farm workers - are being weakened by corporate efforts to conquer new markets by breaking free from the marketing systems that the organisations in question had tried to impose upon them. This involves both integrating various marketing and packaging interests (thereby redefining crop managers' professional scope) and a managerialisation of farming that further distances people from their plants.
