The challenge of biocontrol deployment
Résumé
This chapter explains how deploying biocontrol methods on a large scale and by a large number of stakeholders is a key challenge for research and innovation, and is at least as important as developing new methods. We introduce two types of challenges related to biocontrol deployment. The first difficulty relates to the setup of technologies and strategies that optimize the use of each type of biocontrol method (e.g. based on microorganisms, macroorganisms, substances) at the field and landscape levels. The second challenge corresponds to the management of factors that influence the deployment of biocontrol innovations in the agricultural value chain: regulation, investment by public and private stakeholders, organizational innovations promoting research and development of new methods, their deployment at large geographical scales and their deployment or promotion by the actors of the agricultural value chains, etc.
