A systematic review on food bioeconomy innovative business model – case study of the Cité Maraichère

Résumé

One of the main objectives of Foode, European research project, is to identify sustainable initiatives of City region Food System (CRFS) and to characterize indicators of their replicability. With economic, sanitary and environmental crises the consumers ask more sustainable CRFS. This communication will present a part of the FOODE results, especially a systematic literature on the different innovative business models (BMs) applied in bioeconomy sector. The BM CANVAS, based on the relation between profit and innovation, explains how the initiative creates, delivers, shares value. The triple layered BM canvas adds social and environmental dimensions to the economic impact and shows how the organization creates social and environmental positive impacts. So, this review of innovative bioeconomy BMs allows the characterization of criteria of environmental, social and economic KPI (key performance indicator) to enhance sustainable CRFS and to propose viable strategy of their development and duplication. The review is conducted using the PRISMA methodology (Moheret et al., 2009) to collect scientific contributions on the food bioeconomy and innovative and sustainable BMs applied to the CRFS approach. First, this communication highlights the relevant topics of the food bioeconomy and their underlying business models, namely for urban and peri-urban agriculture, Alternative Food Networks, technological innovations (plant breeding, building-integrated rooftop greenhouses, vertical farming, aquaponics, smart farming, product innovations, and food waste valorization). Secondly, sustainable and innovative BM of the Foode pilot initiatives are presented.
