Setting the scene for carbon farming: best practices and challenges: Developping C farming schemes in a soil health perspective

Résumé

Soil organic matter represents a huge store of C that can contribute to mitigate climate change. It is also key to soil health. Best practices and challenges for carbon farming comprise selecting management options with regards to their C sequestration potential and to the provision of ecosystem services, identifying trade-offs and mitigating them. Hybrid schemes are needed, combining practice-based and results-based approaches as well as modelling and measurements.
