De la nécessité d’une agriculture innovante dans les départements français d’Amérique

Abstract : Global changes will undoubtedly be one of the most significant events of the 21st century that calls for substantial transformations in the agricultural world. These mutations impact production methods and crop choices. This article intends to renew the debate on agriculture in the Caribbean small island economies that are highly exposed to global changes. A renewed conceptualization of the agricultural sector underlines its potentiality of mitigation and adaptation. It highlights the role of “competent” actors that are able to be collectively organized and turned to the future. Taking the French overseas departments as an instance, we analyzed to what extent agriculture can be regarded as a resilience factor rather than a vulnerability one.
