Multivariable optimal control for on-demand operation of irrigation canals : application to a single reach
This paper presents an appplication of optimal control theory to the automatic control of a single reach of an irrigation canal. The model used to design the controller is derived from Saint-Venant's equations discretized through the Preissmann implicit scheme and linearized. A state and pertubation observer is used to reconstruct the state variable from a reduced number of observed variables. Both pertubation rejection and tracking aspects are considered. The controller and observer are tested both on a linear and on a non-linear model and prove to be efficient.
