Local production and consumption of organic foods : accounts of commitments and collective compromises

This article aims to analyse how local food consumption and organic farming are being articulated through collective initiatives. Work is based on the detailed analysis of two rural. We first question the specific strategies of different actors at the origin of new initiatives. We observe an opposition between local farming and the mixing of conventional and organic farm products and a militant commitment advocating preferentially organic farming. Then we show how, even within these latter initiatives, compromises can emerge to reconcile the construction of a local foothold, the necessity to build networks and the respect of different values. The assiociative network appears as a key driver in the face of communities which struggle sometimes to take up these challenges. We therefore question the capacity of such initiatives to carry out territorial projects.
Cet article propose d'analyser la manière dont alimentation locale et agriculture biologique (AB) parviennent à être articulés dans des initiatives collectives. Le travail est fondé sur l'analyse fine de deux situations rurales. Nous interrogeons tout d'abord les stratégies spécifiques de différents porteurs d'initiatives et constatons que la mise en avant du local et de la mixité des productions conventionnelles et biologiques se confronte à un engagement plus militant soutenant préférentiellement l'AB. Nous montrons ensuite comment, au sein même des initiatives relevant de cette seconde logique, des compromis émergent pour concilier la construction d'un ancrage local, la nécessité de faire réseau et le respect des valeurs. Le tissu associatif apparait comme un levier fondamental face à des collectivités qui peinent parfois à se saisir de ses enjeux. Nous questionnons alors la capacité de ces initiatives à faire projet de territoire.
