Du modèle à l’outil d’aide à la décision : comment paramétrer un modèle de fonctionnement de l’atelier d’engraissement porcin pour une utilisation en élevage ?

Abstract : To address economic and environmental challenges of pig production systems, decision support tools based on mathematical models have been developed. We developed a dynamic model of a pig fattening unit that represents effects of inter-individual variability of pigs, farm buildings and farmer practices on technical, economic and environmental results of the unit. To test the model, it was applied to 21 pig farms in western France of which practices and technical performances had been previously surveyed. Another objective was to develop a process for parameterization for future on-farm use, and then to use this process to parameterize the model for each farm to evaluate the model’s predictive ability. In the first step, each farm’s buildings and farmer practices were described. In the second step, average initial age and live weight of pigs were specified. In the third step, slaughter weight, mean protein deposition and a feed intake correction factor were successively parameterized. This step was iterated three times to remove effects of parameterization order. From the first to last step of the process, the root mean square error of prediction of the feed conversion ratio decreased from 0.22 to 0.03 kg of feed/kg gain (from 7.8% to 1.1%), and that of the average daily weight gain decreased from 59 to 14 g (from 7.3% to 1.9%). The model overestimated, however, the percentage of pigs that lay within the range without penalties of the payment grid at slaughter. These results show that after parameterization, the model predicts the performance of the pig fattening unit with an acceptable error. The parameterization process will be included in the decision support system and applied to existing farms.
