Effets d’une ration enrichie en acides gras polyinsaturés n-3 sur la production d’embryons chez la vache laitière

Abstract : Fertility of Prim’Holstein dairy cowsremains relatively low. In a previous study (Elis et al. 2016), the enrichment of thediet withlong chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA n-3 LC) led to a decrease of the non-fertilization–early embryo mortality rateafter the first artificial insemination(PUFA n-3 LC13.5%, n=22 vs controln-638.8%, n=23), suggesting a potential effect on oocyte quality. We thusinvestigated here, the effects of the same supplementation on in vitro embryo production in dairy cows, after ovarian stimulation. Therefore 37 primiparous cows were supplemented witheither n-3 PUFA (n=18, encapsulated fish oil, 1% DM, OMG750®, Kemin) or n-6 PUFA (n=19, control with encapsulated soy oil, 1% DM, OMG Soy®, Kemin). After ovum pick-up, oocyte cumulus complexeswere in vitromatured, fertilized and underwent in vitrodevelopment. A total of 1462 follicles were punctured on n-3 cows (54 sessions) and 1583 follicles on n-6 cows (57 sessions). A significant increase of the good quality blastocystesrate was reported (p = 0.0217) in n-3 cows (42.7%)compared to control n-6 cows (33.3%)
