Land strategies and installation in viticulture

Résumé

The land issue in viticulture has obvious particularities for analysts in the sector. This chapter focuses on the issues of installation of vines, justifying the legal forms that support it. It explains the main mechanisms for setting prices for vinegrowing land and discusses regulatory framework in terms of public support, conditions of access, and financing. The chapter presents details about the institutions and organizations that have emerged from land policy at both national and European levels, determining the price and conditions of purchase. The basic amount of the installation grant for young farmers varies according to three criteria: the agro‐ecological dimension of the project; the difficulties of installation encountered when taking over outside the familial framework; and the project's potential to generate added value and employment. For viticulture, the price of land is a key factor in the establishment of young farmers or the transfer of winegrowing businesses.
