La température d’élevage altère le comportement et la réactivité émotionnelle chez la truite arc-en-ciel Oncorhynchus mykiss

Abstract : In the next decades global warming will increase the water temperature in rivers, which could affect farmed fish welfare. In order to assess the impact of these thermal changes, two isogenic lines were reared during 5 weeks at an optimal temperature (12°C, Cold group), a high temperature (20°C, Warm group), and a fluctuating temperature between 12 and 20°C every 12 hours (Variable group). Two behavioural tests were used to assess and to compare the emotional reactivity of the trouts from the two lines reared under theses three different thermal conditions. Results showed that fish from the Variable group demonstrated different behavioural responses than fish from the Cold group in a novel-tank and in a suddenness tests. They also showed that trouts from the Warm group had an altered emotional reactivity in the suddenness test. We conclude that warm and variable treatments impact fish behaviour but not in the same way. No "line effect" was found and the explanations are briefly discussed. More studies are still needed to clarify qualitatively and quantitatively the effects of the two rearing conditions on the fish behaviour.
