Stratégie d’alimentation, race, âge au 1er vêlage et taux de renouvellement : évaluation intégrée de leur influence sur l’empreinte carbone du lait et les pertes azotées à l’échelle du système laitier.

Abstract : More than 50 practices are identified in bovine production to reduce the greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and to improve nitrogen efficiency. However, these individual practices more or less effective rarely are integrated at the dairy system level. The results of the long term experiment « Which cow for which system » at the INRAE experimental farm of Pin-au-Haras in Normandy were used to study at the dairy system level the effect of 6 factors including the feeding strategy (grass vs maize, with or without concentrates) or the breed (Holstein, Normande) on the environmental performances. One hundred and sixty dairy systems were built based on the experimental data with a common objective to produce 400 000 litres of milk per year. CAP’2ER tool was used to determine the GHG gross emission, the carbon footprint of the milk, the nitrogen balance and associated indicators. The average GHG gross emission is 1,18±0,08 kg eqCO2/l of milk and the milk carbon footprint is 0,91±0,12 kg eqCO2/l. The average nitrogen balance is 146±10 kg N /ha. The « low feeding strategy » without concentrates and the « Holstein breed » are the only modalities who present at the same time lower GHG gross emission and lower milk carbon footprint. The « zero concentrates » strategy presents a higher nitrogen surplus (+ 7 kg N/ha) but the nitrogen leaching risk is significantly lower than the « concentrates » strategy (- 27 kg N/ha). This analysis confirms the interest of the integrated approach at the dairy system scale, while stressing the need for environmental trade-offs in the face of the diversity of impacts assessed.
