Recoupler grandes cultures et élevages ovins par le pâturage, en vue de systèmes économes en Île-de-France

Abstract : Mixed crop-livestock systems are more than ever acclaimed for their economic, agronomic and environmental interests, but are disappearing in cereal crop-specialized areas such as the Ile-de-France region. The POSCIF project focuses on the valorization of cover crops grazing by sheep, as well as wheat and winter rape (for grain harvesting) grazing. These plants represent an important source of agricultural biomass available in field crops-specialized territories. In South Ile-de-France, farmer-experimenters are setting up comparative trials of grazing in cereal plots in order to produce technical knowledge on the valuation of agricultural biomass made possible by sheep grazing. In particular, the agronomic and environmental impacts on farms implementing cover crops and winter crops grazing, as well as the performance of sheep farming in terms of production, work organization and animal welfare, are studied. The first results of this project are presented and put into perspective in the case of the development of new cropping systems integrating the positive effects of sheep grazing. The issues related to the development of outdoor sheep troops in Île-de-France are discussed.
