Reuniting crop fanning and pastoral farming : are Mediterranean agricultural systems and regions returning to their roots or turning towards tomorrow?

Abstract : In the Mediterranean, pastoral farming is being integrated into agricultural projects in which farmers are putting to use uncultivated fields while also growing perennial crops (e.g., vineyards or orchards) and cash crops (grains). Here, we explored case studies to examine three factors that greatly contribute to the success of these mixed-farming projects: 1) deploying diverse resources across space and time; 2) coordinating the efforts of multiple stakeholders; and 3) facilitating learning under uncertain conditions.
