Résumé

To tackle food security and food sovereignty in Inuit and First Nation communities, an array of community-based food initiatives are occurring all over Northern Canada. These initiatives promote better access to and knowledge of subsistence activities, encourage local food production, and seek to reduce inequality in access to a healthy diet. This chapter presents and analyses three case studies from across Canada of community-led approaches to addressing food insecurity and sovereignty. We examine how these initiatives have improved access to affordable, nutritious food in remote communities while at the same time improving food sovereignty and wellbeing and preventing diet-related chronic diseases.
