Résumé
This dossier has explored the welfare of pigs from the point of view of the animals themselves, starting with the physiological and behavioural needs that are closely linked to their cognitive and emotional capacities. These concepts are at the heart of the ANSES definition of animal welfare: ‘The welfare of an animal is the positive mental and physical state associated with the satisfaction of its physiological and behavioural needs and also with its expectations. This state varies according to the animal's perception of the situation’ (Anses, 2018).
Ce dossier aborde le bien-être des porcs du point de vue des animaux, en partant de leurs besoins physiologiques et comportementaux, eux-mêmes étroitement liés aux capacités cognitives et émotionnelles. Ces notions sont au cœur de la définition du bien-être animal de l’Anses : « Le bien-être d’un animal est l’état mental et physique positif lié à la satisfaction de ses besoins physiologiques et comportementaux, ainsi que de ses attentes. Cet état varie en fonction de la perception de la situation par l’animal. » (Anses, 2018)
