SmartCow’s training and capacity building activities

Résumé

The aim of the SmartCow training program is to transfer and ensure sustainability of the knowledge generated by the project, and to foster innovation, by the means of web-conferences, face-to-face courses and study tours. The courses target researchers and/or technicians from academia, advisory bodies and industries. They will cover the different fields of SmartCow, such as: Ethics in animal experimentation; Ontologies (ATOL and EOL) and their utilization; Digestibility, N balance, feed efficiency, CH4 emissions measurements and proxies; Validation and user of sensor outputs, etc. 12 training courses (6 two-day face-to-face sessions, and 6 two-hour e-learning sessions) will be set up, targeting around 120 trainees. Special focus will be given to multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary approaches where possible. In addition, study tours will be organized to reinforce interaction between RIs and European stakeholders, i.e. to increase information and appropriation of improved methodologies and best practices, and to promote TNA activities. SmartCow will organize up to 4 tailor made, 1-day thematic visits of 4 project infrastructures, for groups of around 15 participants. These will include visits of other experimental and commercial farms, run by research institutions. A catalogue featuring furthering details on the topics and schedule of this program will be disseminated and updated as the project advances.
