How do the Rava sheep help to maintain the open environments on the chain of the Auvergne Volcanoes?

Abstract : The authors present their three years of sheep grazing experiments to open and maintain open landscapes in the chain of the puys of the Volcanoes of Auvergne. The approach integrates notions of botany and animal behaviour allowing, with the shepherd's know-how, good grazing management. Beyond the opening of landscapes, this experience demonstrates the interest of agroforestry - in animal health and welfare.
