La gestion sanitaire en élevage ovin biologique au Pays Basque : La place du conseil

Abstract : Organic livestock farmers use a multifaceted approach to animal health, based on their experience. To improve their system and innovate, farmers join discussion groups or they undergo training of ask animal health professionals for advice of to gain new skills. This study analyzed animal health management in dairy sheep flocks in the Pays Basque region and how breeders integrate advices and training into their flock health regime. Comprehensive and systematic interviews were conducted withe eight farmers in the Pays Basque region, to study the diversity of livestock systems and to understand the various practices used to manage animal health. Basque farmers primary health management concern included feeding, replacement animal breeding, personal work on the farm and parasitism. These farmers had typically less access to advisors however they access advice from the CIVAM BLE association and animal health professionals met during training. Future research on this area should seek to be undertand the influence of different advice and animal health preoccupations for farmers on different area.
