Le programme PRAIRIES AOP. Bilan et perspectives.

Abstract : The AOP Grassland Programme implemented in 2007 in the Massif Central made it possible for different actors to work together as partners towards a common objective: further developing the specificities of mid-altitude mountain agriculture and upgrading specifications for AOP-certified dairy production. A multi-functional approach was used to meet these objectives, which involved developing 3 tools (based on a co-construction approach) integrating 3 complementary factors: land plot, foraging practices and farming system. This programme helped focus on grassland resources as a means of creating an identity which may be used to add value to local produce (AOP-certified cheese and local agricultural resources), and clarified the coherent link between foraging system, livestock farming and quality of end produce. The different partners are convinced that local permanent grassland with a rich and varied botanical composition offers a great potential and is a key asset.
