Pig production under organic farming specifications is a small percentage of French pig production (1.9% of all sows in 2021 according to AgenceBio). ORIGAMI (ORganic for pIG fArMIng) is an interdisciplinary consortium financed by INRAE's Metabio metaprogramme that aims to identify obstacles and mechanisms for the development of organic pig farming. Initial results show that communication with consumers is a major mechanism to explore. The objective of this project was to help disseminate information on the organic pig sector by creating a summary and comprehensive tool: an alphabet book. The first step was to define a set of words that describe the specific characteristics of the organic pig sector, and then to select a word for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. The content related to each word was then drafted based on information from the literature and meetings with farmers, and validated by the consortium members. Overall organization of the book and creation of its visuals and layout were done in collaboration with a visual animator and a graphic designer. The project resulted in a multidisciplinary alphabet book, from upstream to downstream of the organic pig chain, that covers historic, technical, economic, social, environmental and organizational aspects. To disseminate this book widely, a flyer with a QR code will be distributed to the pig sector and consumers to enable them to access a full version of the alphabet book online.
